Be prepared for saltwater fishing licensing this year.
A saltwater license will be installed in Massachusetts in 2010, the result of NOAA Fisheries creating a national registry.
The Magnuson-Stevens Act was established by the federal government in 2006 to help better protect marine resources.
The act dictates that fishermen join a national registry, or a licensing system to be set up to gather needed information on present and future fish stocks.
The licensing is for those who fish federal waters and tidal waters for migratory fish such as striped bass and salmon that spawn in rivers and spend their adult lives in estuaries and ocean fringes.
Fishermen who fish on charter or guided boats do not have to join the national registry, which would apparently mean they do not have to purchase a license.

406 MHz EPIRB Reminder MESSAGE RELAY FROM THE NATIONAL BOATING FEDERATION
USCG – 406 MHz EPIRB Reminder
The US Coast Guard issued a press release reminding the maritime community that older
Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs) that broadcast analog signals on the
121.5 or 243 MHz frequencies will not be monitored by the COSPAS/SARSAT satellites as of 1
